I measured the power consumption of my #IcomIC7300 and noticed a non-linear rise, so I decided to plot the data.
It's quite noticeable how the radio reaches 2/3 of its 100% power consumption at already 10% RF output power and 90% just below half way on the RF knob.
Also, the curve starts at 60W... 😬

PS: I measured this using the RTTY mode on the 15m band with the tuner turned on (albeit with just a minor correction necessary).

@hb3xew
Interesting, I've never seen this measurement before.

This means 60W in receive ?
(4.4A @13.6V)
These DSP, and screen, and high speed ADC, all that is power hungry.

@F4JWJ I’m not sure if 0% output power means absolutely no RF output but there is something “turning on” when going from RX to 0% TX. In purely RX it consumes around 12W. Still not great, but manageable.

@hb3xew OK, thanks, I misinterpreted the result @ 0%.

I fact, I was surprised, 60W for a receiver is more akin to a tubes (valves🇬🇧 ) era spec !
