If you don’t assume the Republicans’ refusal to pass the debt ceiling and risk crashing the economy is not part of the same effort to keep the criminal loser in office and reject the peaceful transfer of power, then you’re not paying attention.

@StevenBeschloss Wouldn't it be time to treat the Rebellicans the way the law requires?

"Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any ***rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof***, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both;  and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

— 18 U.S.C. § 2383 —

"Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned."

— Fourteenth Amendment, Section 4, *Validity of public debt* —

@ArenaCops @StevenBeschloss hmm, I wonder why that was put there... maybe because someone foresaw a situation like this...

Also, the Fourteenth Amendment was basically created as a correctional tool against the economic and social ideologies the South had invested so heavily in before and during the Civil War, so are we at the point where we're engaging with these ideas all over again? Really?

@terminallytrisk @StevenBeschloss
Roe v Wade — assaulted by rebellious "GOP" SCOTUS majority
Obergefell v Hodges — under attack by rebellious "GOP" SCOTUS majority
Brown v Board of Education — to be targeted by rebellious "GOP" SCOTUS majority

All based on the 14th Amendment, certainly one of the most important post-1865 constitutional Amendments.
The last state to ratify it was (McConnell's) Kentucky, on March 30, 1976 — 111 years after the official defeat of the Confederacy.
Most visible proof, that a lot of rebels didn't win any wisdom & understanding over time (due to intentionally sabotaged education?), could be seen around & inside the Capitol on Jan 6, waving confederate war flags.
