Please boost for reach. My dad wants a small computer for his birthday, to be used mainly for playing music in Winamp. As such, he doesn't need a real powerhouse. I've been looking at some approx. $150 stick computers on Amazon but some of them seem to get mixed reviews. He'd love Windows 10 as that's what we have on all our other PC's. He'd also love an audio output jack so he wouldn't need to use an external sound device, though I know that might be hard/impossible to find in this form factor. He's totally blind so it does need to run NVDA. He knows nothing about Linux, and I know nothing about Linux for this use case, so a Pi or similar that runs Linux isn't an option. Any recommendations?
@jaybird110127 Finding an audio jack shouldn't be hard in any formfactor really, if even a pi can do it. If you find something that lists windows 10 and headphone jack on the box, you're likely good to go. If it can run windows 10, even if it's slowly, it should be able to run a screen-reader equally averagely as well.
@jaybird110127 I have a mini-PC which came with Windows 11 on it. It's about the size of a 2.5 portable hard drive, includes an audio jack and can run your run-of-the-mill software just fine. It was around $200.
@sclower Do you know if there's a Windows 10 version? Like I said, we're currently running Windows 11 on exactly zero devices, so I'd prefer Win10 if for no other reason than I'm familiar with it and could hopefully get it up and running with a minimum of fuss.
@jaybird110127 I doubt it. No OEM sells Windows 10 anymore.
@jaybird110127 Se if you can find one of those Intel Nooks. I think they're discontinued but you may still be able to find one for pretty cheap.
@jaybird110127 @devinprater Hi. I know you were wanting a computer, but could I gently suggest that if the main purpose is to listen to music that you might consider some thing like an Amazon device? As a person who is blind and an instructor for the blind, when there are simple use cases, the person is older, and has limited computer experience, I often suggest this particular smart device because it can do so many very useful things, along with playing music content.
@CreativeChris @devinprater The thing is, he already has a bunch of Alexa devices, and he's good with computers, uses them every day. So he definitely wants a computer. Thanks anyway, and I would probably agree with you if he were not a computer user.
