The willingness of NIDA to recommend *regulation* of recreational #cannabis is a big deal. As one of the key players in the ongoing HHS review of cannabis’ CSA scheduling, this report gives us a snapshot into the sorts of high-level input that might be driving the report’s thesis.
All indications are that a report will recommend substantial changes to cannabis’ scheduling. Based on many indicators, I fully expect cannabis to be removed from Schedule 1 after a report recommending to do so. Precisely where cannabis lands is still a mystery; the DEA very well could determine the CSA requires cannabis to remain as a Schedule 2 drug without legislative action. We’ll see.
I expect the report to come out this Summer or this Fall. When it was initiated in October, I estimated that such a study would take at least 8 months to undertake. Eight months later, here we are!
Change is slow but seemingly inevitable at this point. Hopefully medical #marijuana will be federally legal next year.
