#AllStarTrek This was an odd choice for a season finale - a sudden cliffhanger ending. After an entire season devoted to ONE mission which pushed the crew to its limits, that mission finally and dramatically ended with this episode. Honestly felt like a cathartic release to be rid of that Sword of Damocles.

Then they suddenly throw in some silly random alien Nazi crap on their return to Earth? To be continued? WTF!

As a viewer I woulda been pissed.😖

The show runners knew they were being replaced, so they imposed a weird cliffhanger that the new show runners would need to figure out how to address...and they didn't leave any clues as to what they had in mind.

@Trek_Academy @kcarr2015 not even the first alien nazi from that showrunner. Oof.

I love the third season of ENT. I found the Xindi season to be very entertaining.

But that out-of-left-field cliffhanger? I remember when it first aired and I was baffled. And the 2-part season 4 opener that resolves the cliffhanger isn’t very good.

Thankfully, S4 gets really good after that. Starting with the crew’s *actual* return home after stopping the Xindi weapon.

And then S4 is consistently great until… the infamously awful series finale.

I found Enterprise solidly 'acceptable' throughout. They didn't achieve greatness as often as the others, but they did ok. Least favorite part after the theme song was junky T'Pol.

@lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus @kcarr2015

The theme song took some getting used to, but the visuals of the opening credits were a work of art.

RoFL! I was listening to Pensky I think, doing an Enterprise review, and they commented on a heavy intro scene transitioning into Faith of the Heart, and its incongruity. I never picked up that, cause I fast forward through the theme as quick as I can hit the button.

Whether you like the theme or not, in retrospect, it was a bad idea. An orchestral theme can go with anything. You won't have space Nazis and bouncy pop running against each other

@lxskllr @Trek_Academy @sezduck @Anguirus Orchestral themes are timeless.

But I don't begrudge people who like the song, it's a TV show from 20 years ago - enjoy the song.😁👍

@kcarr2015 @lxskllr @Trek_Academy @Anguirus
Thanks for reminding me that Enterprise was 20 years ago. I feel old. Even with new Trek shows, I still default to thinking of ENT as the “new” show. 🤣 😜

@sezduck @kcarr2015 @Trek_Academy @Anguirus

They're ALL the new show. 90s? Psh.. That was only... Oh my... 30 years ago?! That can't be right. Let me grab my calc :^D

@lxskllr @kcarr2015 @Trek_Academy @Anguirus
The best example of a heavy intro scene going into Faith of the Heart is S3 “Impulse”

If you have access to the episode , it’s worth watching the opening scene + opening credits for a good laugh.

I actually don't have that much to say.

1) The theme itself is completely uninteresting. It isn't doing anything unique instrument-wise like, say, #BrokenWings or #ShatteredDreams or, I dunno, ANY fun soft rock pop tune you can think of. It just sounds so derivative

Maybe the music majors out there can school me on why it's good.🤦‍♂️

@Trek_Academy @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus
2) Lyrically, it's about believing in yourself, following your heart, and never giving up your dreams, but to me #StarTrek was always about people studying, researching, and working together to achieve greatness or, you know, stop than damn plague.

Like, I bet every person you ever heard of who ever did something batshit followed their heart, didn't compromise their dreams, and then founded the Nazi party or some other crap.

It's a weird message!🤯

Fun fact: The showrunners considered Beautiful Day by U2 as the theme, but it would’ve cost too much.

I’d say that supports your point about the lyrics not really meaning much relative to the show (if they can just swap out one pop song for another).

@Trek_Academy @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus @lxskllr
On #StarTrek #TurnaboutIntruder last night, when that lady stole Kirk's body so she could command the Enterprise, and then tried to have Kirk and the bridge crew executed? She had #FaithOfTheHeart, and was following her dang dreams!

Ignore the song people, it can take you to some dark places! (Also, stay in school.👍)

@kcarr2015 @Trek_Academy @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus

HMMM… what rock or pop song would be a good intro for a Star Trek series?

Early on, a lot of focus for ENT was on “Wherever You Will Go” by The Calling, which was used in ENT’s teaser trailer. It’s better than “Faith of the Heart” but still not really a great song.

@strange_new_words @kcarr2015 @Trek_Academy @lxskllr @Anguirus
I remember those ENT promos with “Wherever You Will Go.” They aired before the show premiered. They were effective (to me) because it made me feel like we were in for something truly unique & special. S1 of ENT didn’t live up to those expectations for me & I agree that the song would not have made for a good opening theme.

@kcarr2015 @Trek_Academy @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus How about “Learn to Fly” by Foo Fighters? It came out in 1999, so right time period for ENT…

@strange_new_words @kcarr2015 @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus

I (podcast co-host Michael) don't mind Faith of the Heart. It evokes the Star Trek continuity of Vulcans repressing Humans to try to keep them out of the interstellar playing field.

As I have said previously, I think that the visuals that go with the music in the opening credits are artistic.

@Trek_Academy @kcarr2015 @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus

Love the visuals. My problem with “Faith of the Heart,” other than it being an awful song which is an opinion not a fact, is that in 2001 the purpose of having a song instead of a score and of taking Star Trek out of the title was to signal the show was going to be cool, fun and sexy in a way that broke from its predecessors. The song misses the target. It’s the musical equivalent of an inspirational poster. It is not cool, fun or sexy. Nor was Enterprise at the beginning. It adds to the overall impression of a show trying really hard to be something it’s not.

@strange_new_words @Trek_Academy @kcarr2015 @sezduck @Anguirus

Reminds me of a Smuckers ad, especially the later remix

@Trek_Academy @lxskllr @sezduck @Anguirus Dr Soong on #ColdStation12, another nutter with #FaithOfTheHeart, who no one's gonna bend or break.🤦‍♂️

Crazy people!
