Someone’s gender is none of your business unless 1) you want to have sex with them, or 2) you want to ask them to lend you a tampon. #transgenderrights
@wendynather What if you want to police bathroom use or school sports to keep people you think are icky or sinful out? Just want to be sure here.
@mattblaze Still no. And the β€œno” is punctuated by a throat punch.
@wendynather ok, that was my instinct, but wanted to be sure.
@mattblaze It’s a good instinct. Go with it.

@wendynather

Wanting to have sex with someone still doesn't suddenly make things your business either though.

@topher True, you still don’t have a RIGHT to know.

@wendynather Ah, but I've taught my cis male chassis offspring that even if one doesn't have the need for such, one may have friends who sometimes do so best to keep an "emergency friend" bag in the backpack.

Which goes back to 1, which I completely agree with.

@catbailey Oh, you have truly gone above and beyond in raising your offspring! Good for you! πŸ’š

@wendynather I have to do SOMETHING to counter the toxic masculinity crap in this country!

(I have also warned about how insecure guys, which is a LARGE number of them, will likely react on finding out and how to respond. ("Because I have female friends, duh." "Well so do I and I don't carry those!" *stare at idiot with both eyebrows raised, indicating idiot has missed a VERY OBVIOUS THING*) Anything we can do to normalize "being a friend to other people regardless of plumbing" and "not assuming guys won't need a tampon".)

@catbailey Oh, I’m tearing up πŸ₯Ή πŸ’š

@wendynather Then I pointed out that UNscented ones are probably best, as scented ones are problematic for nosebleeds... and tbh other parts. "But why would someone want to scent their trash? Ohhhh. Or their..." "...because some marketing would have us believe that clean healthy bodies are not supposed to smell like.. clean healthy bodies." Kidlet pondered, then said "sucks to be them."

I refused to explain my reaction until both offspring are much much older, but the kids are all right.

@catbailey @wendynather When I was a Drill Sergeant in Infantry Basic, I had all of my trainee's buy a box of Tampons on their first trip to the PX. They are the perfect size for cleaning the chamber of an M16 rifle. Learned this from our unit's female armorer.
@Pjcoyle @wendynather ...which size though, and which brand? (You'd think there would be size consistency across brands with THESE at least but noooo. Also... what size? I need to grab a barrel now and look...)
@catbailey @wendynather It was almost 40-years ago. Either I don't remember the details (I don't like AR 15s/.223 so no need to keep current) or there was only one brand/size at the time. Take your pick.

@Pjcoyle @wendynather I wasn't paying attention to sizes of those back then... though running through specs in my head, really "doesn't get stuck in the barrel" is about all you need!

...dammit now I'm eyeing my Special Safe speculatively and want to make a mostly joking chart of what sizes/brands are best for what calibers...can you imagine how the SUPER "phobic of anything that even hints at feminine" types would react?

@wendynather "Lend" implies a return when finished with it. I'm supportive, but not to that extent.
@spaf But vampires, Spaf

@wendynather Ah, good point.

I don't think I will start a riff on garlic at this point.
