I’m sick and tired of hearing this lie peddled by the GOP and corporate media. Raising the debt ceiling does not increase spending or the federal debt. It simply allows the government to pay bills it has already taken on— and defaulting on the debt would be catastrophic.

@rbreich but that would be the truth. The GOP base wants "red meat 🍖" lies and falsehoods. You know. Like there is only weather and climate change does not exist. Even if it did, it would be all natural and in no way caused by human behavior.

It would awsome to see the US default.
It would give us an even better reason to starting stringing up the Republican SBs in congress and the Senate.
I’ll bet that there are a lot of people surviving on SS, who would be PISSED if they stopped receiving their monthly checks. And I’ll bet they own a lot of GUNS.

@rbreich I'm annoyed that every Democrat and serious journalist isn't in front of a camera asking why the Republican debt urgency *always arrives when a Democrat is in the White House. Holding the country's credit hostage and demanding austerity is *always reserved for Democrat presidents.

@rbreich Thanks for being rational. Unfortunately, half of America is not rational and does not give two hoots about economics or public policy. All they want is bread and circuses. A new Edward Gibbons will record this history. The downfall is virtually inevitable at this point.
