Anyone know the status of MoCA 3.0 (i.e. 10G over coax)?

Comcast did a DOCSIS 4.0 prototype last year and is apparently getting ready to roll out 10G service.

Haven't heard anything on MoCA 3.0 for years, though.

@bascule following thread (but no insights. My ActionTech 2.5's handle 1G routinely, but don't see as much duty now since I ran fiber optic for ISP #2.)

@kennwhite I have 2.5GBASE-T (MoCA 2.5) right now with switches that support it on each side but it would be nice to go up to 10G everywhere on the backbone of my home network.

Would even be faster than some existing CAT5e runs too.

@bascule Since I just expanded my own MoCA 2.5 use around the house (which is working very nicely) I briefly looked around for whatever the current standard is but all I found on 3.0 were write-ups like these https://broadbandlibrary.com/a-preview-of-10g-enabling-technologies/

I guess good news is that when they do start to become available your home's coax will support 3.0 units with a simple swap of bridge units.

Cable operators need to start thinking about how they will distribute the 10 Gbps signal through the home network once 10 Gbps technology is available

@bruienne hmm, no date on that article, but the claims of a "2022-2023" timeframe suggest it's at least from last year.

I think the existence of DOCSIS 4.0 chips is the major prerequisite and Comcast is already deploying those. No mention of any of that in that article, which only talks about Comcast's DOCSIS 3.1 devices.

@bascule Yeah not the newest, I assume there can be quite a gap between "silicon available" and “I can buy a couple units on Amazon” however. It might also be that Xfinity will be an early shipper of MoCA 3.0 for their own whole-home DVR doodad, whatever it's called these days. I guess we get to wait for dedicated units some more 😕
@bascule ooooh, I wonder if I can use this to get 10G within my house.
