The very first tweets of the opening talks by @EU_Commission and EU Parliament presidents at #BeyondGrowth conference show how politicians are still very on board with #growth and didn't (or refuse to) understand that the all point of a conference called #BeyondGrowth is to move away from growth, not trying to fix it.

btw, the conference is livestreamed here: https://www.beyond-growth-2023.eu/lecture/opening-plenary-limits-to-growth/

Lecture: Opening plenary โ€“ Limits to Growth: where do we stand and where do we go from here? - Beyond Growth 2023 Conference

Now talking Sandrine Dixson-Declรจve, who finally is clarifying that the Club of Rome is not calling for a different growth, but for a different economic model tout court.
I really loved the passage: 'the only technology that can fix climate change is a time machine that can brings us back 50 years to allow us to make different decisions'

'People don't want #EconomicGrowth, they want #EconomicStability'

@alx I guess they* don't know how to achieve this without ripping someone off on the way, as that was the blueprint so far
(*us? societies? leaders? that norm we've been shown?)
@Heliograph hello, I'm not sure I understood your question/comment. Could you please expand on it?
@alx oh apologies please, this was probably very cryptic... I have master studied sustainability, and am working in the sector for over a decade now, and am so acutely aware of the growth narrative that we were dished for so long, spun by those at the levers, and I know that we know better, but still we keep playing along with business as usual in complete oblivion of the impact and result of our actions... and when I just opened my phone and yours was the first post in my feed, I could not help but write down my first thought... which was if we were serious about change, it would need to be so fundamental it's probably scaring people by the sheer magnitude of shift thinking... rarara... sorry I had a long day and just blubbered out... from the hashtags I can see you are in a good spot, so please carry!! <3
@Heliograph no worries, actually I share your feelings. I've been in sustainable design since 2009 (when I was still doing my master) and worked on the topic in Italy, Peru, Spain and now the UK. And it's really hard to stay optimistic. I just try to remind myself that we need to keep believing change is possible, because no one else will bring it to us if not ourselves. Feel free to keep following this thread and comment :)
