Life has a way of making you too busy to do the things you want to do. I've missed most of the pre-game #IGOW4 stuff but I'm super happy things look like they're opening up again in time for the real season.

To celebrate, finally got my #TinyWhoop transferred over to the Fractal 65 frame. This baby has gone from cute little thing to looking like a stripped down rat rod, and I love it.

@MouseOfMadness ooh that looks neat! I’ve had a couple micro quads from Horizon Hobby/Blade but they’re a dead product, and the tiny whoop ecosystem seems pretty cool and vibrant. Been thinking of getting into it! Guess I’d need a basic starter kit and a modern radio…

@dfraser They're a lot of fun. From my personal experience, so naturally your mileage may vary, the BetaFPV Meteor65 or the Pro model with slightly larger props is an excellent little drone now that they've fixed a little glitch with the gyro chip on them. My Fractal conversion started off as one with some upgraded motors. Stay away from their radios though, they're not good at all.

For a radio, definitely suggest getting something with ELRS protocol (and the drone to match, of course) and EdgeTX OS. They're open source and actually get updates regularly unlike some of the closed stuff from frsky and the like. ELRS has more solid range performance than you'll ever need. If you like gamepad style format, the Jumper T-Lite V2 is a solid budget option at ~$65-75 but if you've got the budget I recently upgraded to the Radiomaster Boxer ~$140 and couldn't be happier.

Oh! And another thing with modern radios... the PC simulators! Velocidrone, Liftoff, TinyWhoop Go, etc. are lots of fun.

@MouseOfMadness Oh wow, thanks for all the advice! I will look into it all. I’ve never done FPV either, so that will be a treat. I flew RC helicopters years ago, but my current Deep Urban situation makes that hobby infeasible now.

@dfraser Yeah, especially with the global push to redefine the laws around flying model aircraft. If you stay under 250 grams it's generally more lax on what you can and can't do which is why I love micro drones and you can fly the smaller ones inside. (standard "check local laws disclaimer")

Oh! I forgot goggles! I'm using the BetaFPV VR03 goggles, they're pretty decent though I did upgrade the antenna on them shortly after getting them to a circularly polarized one (Foxeer Pagoda with a right angle adapter) and they have a built in DVR if you want to record your flights. Analog video is kinda... well it looks like security footage from the 90s, but you kinda don't notice it while you're flying.

@MouseOfMadness laws aside, you can’t really operate one of those flying lawnmower RC helis anywhere near other humans! I may have made an order from betafpv and from aliexpress today ☺️
@dfraser I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
