I’m looking for a book (novel, mystery) on tape that will be captivating. Any suggestions? (I’ve got to get this shawl done by the wedding in 3 weeks!!!) #bookstodon #books #recommendations #knitting
@rabbijill If you haven't listened to the Harry Potter series on tape yet, I found them the best book-on-tape series I've ever listened to
@3x10to8mps I haven’t! Great idea! Thanks
@rabbijill If you're a Louise Penny fan and haven't read it yet, her latest, A World of Curiosities, is available as audiobook and SO good.
@rabbijill Three that kept us going on our last couple of long drives:
• The Diamond Eye
• Killers of a Certain Age
• The Thursday Murder Club
@rabbijill do you like dragons? The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik is a favorite of mine and has plenty of books to get you through however big a shawl you are making. Or the Mary Russell series by Laurie R King. Plenty of mystery and adventure in both.
@CarrieB I have to tell you how grateful I am got your recommendation. I’m listening to the Laurie King book 2 about Mary Russell (I had read the first in the series a long time ago) what a delight! And it is helping me very much in my race to the finish line of the wedding shawl!
@rabbijill oh I'm so glad! It's lovely when one can introduce another person to favorite books. 😍 I avoided that series for a long time, not believing anyone could adequately pick up the threads of Sherlock Holmes, but I was wrong.
@CarrieB and this is another reason I love social media. Now you are a participant in the “Jacqui wedding shawl”. (As you might imagine I’m fascinated by the biblical interpretations about translation & mistranslation especially about gender! I’m smiling!)

@rabbijill that is a heart-warming thought. 😊

At the risk of overstepping-- would you happen to have any suggestions of books or other sources to start learning more about gender in the Bible or feminist-friendly theology? Please ignore and accept my apologies if you would rather not answer.

@CarrieB oh my what a wonderful question! I have so many suggestions. I’m calling in @adar for this because she will have suggestions too. I’m going to give you some links. Also look up books by Phyllis Trible. Here are a few. https://jwa.org/blog/risingvoices/imagining-feminist-torah-commentary-everyone

For the past year, I’ve been reading the parasha each week. It's been fascinating, meaningful— and incredibly exasperating.

@rabbijill thank you so very much! What an abundance of things to explore (and coming up on a long weekend!) I'm very grateful 🙏 thank you!
@rabbijill You might like Rivers of London! (It’s about rivers in London, but mostly not the way you’d think. Also wizards who are detectives.)
