Meanwhile, elsewhere on social media: we wanted people to know the backstory on that Woburn, MA police officer who was suspended, let go, and then decertified by the state's Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Commission.

Facebook blocked this story for being "against community standards."

We think you should be able to see the facts for yourself.

Officer John Donnelly was placed on leave Thursday over his alleged involvement.

@gbhnews this is a story from October. They're just blocking it now? Seems like pretty weak censorship for a fascist techno emperor. Aren't they supposed to be hyper efficient

@msokolov Weirdly, they did NOT block it in October when it was originally posted.

We posted it again today because we wanted people to be able to understand the backstory about the police officer who was decertified yesterday by the state's Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Commission. And when we posted it today, it was blocked.

@gbhnews if ( strstr( psztitle, "sex" ) ... ?

@otheorange_tag @gbhnews This but in PHP.

The good old Scunthorpe Problem. The only problem that’s just as embarrassing in C as in PHP.

@gbhnews FWIW, Facebook did a rash of community standards violations today. I think they had an unannounced bug (accidentally wired their test TOS violation recognizer to prod maybe?) that got rolled back.

Was the story accepted after disputing the TOS violation?

@gbhnews Based on many years of experience with FB before leaving it entirely, I hesitate to assign any particular "motive" to their blocking of anything.

It may as well be the result of a random event/act of god/bad hair day at the office.

@Philomorph @gbhnews

I was active on FB from 2008 to about 2012. Then I quit, but periodically (once every few months) visited to see if old childhood friends were looking to reconnect.

Then less frequently.

Then one time in 2017 or 2018, when I logged in, I found that I had been suspended for 30 days for a comment I made in 2011. The suspension had transpired in my absence, and the offending comment had been removed.

I really wanted to know what I had said!

@gbhnews It is always "paid leave", in other words "paid vacation".

Why not put the money into escrow? Pay it to the officer if he/she is cleared, otherwise it is forfeit.

@gbhnews I just reposted this on the Book of Faces, it will be "interesting" to see if it gets taken down.
@gbhnews this is why I banned Facebook from my life.
