Teacher appreciation post: My kids returned to school in the U.S. today & I was reminded of how absolutely wonderful public school teachers can be.

In the face of ongoing attacks on education, book bans, guns, uncertainty, budget cuts, huge class sizes, injustice & more, it’s such an unimaginably challenging time to teach.

And yet, incredible teachers still show up for our kids every day. They know the future is in their hands. And I am so grateful for them. ❤️

@Sheril
Teachers rock.
If we'd give them the resources they need to be effective, including wider community building support, they would do even more amazing things with our kids, and earn the greatest reward from doing the job, helping them grow as individuals.

Also, just paying them more is a pretty great reward. It is a highly skilled and demanding job. Yes, happy successful kids are a great reward, but that should not be the primary reward.

Proper pay is item one on the list of the resources needed to be effective.

You definitely can't do your best in the classroom when you have to work a 2nd job to pay the bills or fretting over feeding your family and staying housed.

@joeinwynnewood @gotanda @Sheril most teachers I know have two job my husband is one them.

I taught for a few years a long time ago and some of my colleagues had 2nd jobs, usually some kind of on-the-side business they ramped up over the summer.
Not anything like what's going on today.

@Sheril

Oh jeez.
Thank YOU!
Needed to see this 1st thing!

It's happening all over the world too. Teachers just want to teach. Yippee.
