I was invited to #Bluesky. It's an awfully smug place and you'd swear that Mastodon never existed or has failed miserably somehow.
I should add that I've only been there for a few days and this is my first impression. There's some fun stuff too, I have to say, including an Alf meme and copious booty pics. But still a bit self-obsessed. Maybe it needs time to germinate the more interesting stuff that I take for granted here.
@Aussiemandias I wonder how advertising laden it will become if a lot of big influencers wind up there.
@pamleo65 Indeed. They clearly intend for it to be global in reach and a true competitor to Twitter but decentralized and less prone to autocratic rule by management. All that is nice, but mixing in the same commercial imperatives will likely land them in just another boat on the same shit creek. I may have gotten it all wrong, though. I'll lurk and watch how it plays out.
@Aussiemandias do you have an invite?
@rena2019 I don't. I thought that maybe I would but Bluesky seem to be strategically handing out invite lots to certain people. One of those people gave one to me.
@rena2019 I mean, I don't have any invites to give out.

@Aussiemandias at this point I only want in for two reasons:

1.) Bluesky seems to be better primed towards replacing twitter for the mainstream, so it may be a better place to talk with customers/clients/non-tech people.

2.) I want that which I cannot have, like a child who only wants a toy because another kid has it. :P

@presto I agree on the first point, but that may also make it less appealing to me later one they start to fully realise their ambitions to monetize the platform. Also agree on #2. I have my place there now, so I'll mostly lurk and watch.
