Oakland Catholic Diocese files for bankruptcy in wake of lawsuits

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Oakland filed for bankruptcy Monday as it confronts more than 330 lawsuits over alleged sexual abuse of children.

@stevesilberman I would say overall Christianity in the US is pretty much morally bankrupt too.

@stevesilberman EXACTLY!

If you search for "drag queen crimes" you'll exclusively find hatecrimes against drag queens, but if you search for "catholic priest crimes" you'll find so many reports of child sexual abuse that even in Germany a judge ruled that the catholic church is - in fact - a "childfucker cult" and calling them that way is not an incitement of hate but a statement of facts!

@stevesilberman lucky they were not in Florida or De Santis would have put them to death 🙄🙄🙄
@stevesilberman I bring this up often with friends. A Catholic man told me if the priests are allowed to marry, it will stop. I explained to him that they like little kids. Marriage won’t fix it. He got up and left the room. Church has been protecting these monsters for years resulting in more abuses. 😭
@stevesilberman
With any luck, they'll be able to auction of the entire bishopric and start collecting taxes on that real estate.

@stevesilberman Following these dioceses: Portland, OR; Tucson; Spokane; Davenport, IA; San Diego; Fairbanks; Wilmington; Milwaukee; Stockton; Minneapolis-St.Paul; Duluth; New Ulm; St. Cloud; Winona-Rochester; Agana, Guam; Rochester, NY; Harrisburg; Buffalo; New Orleans; Gallup, NM; Helena; Santa Rosa; and Santa Fe.

Plus the Oregon province of the Jesuits; the Christian Brothers; and the Minnesota and Arizona Crosier Brothers.

@stevesilberman And in Albany NY. But people keep dropping money into the collection baskets. In Albany, they pretty much said it was done to prevent anyone else claiming to be abused by priests from getting any financial payout.
@stevesilberman there will be seats on the supreme court for them once we expand it
