@twinkler – By arguing that their APCs are "below the market average relative to quality", Elsevier are introducing a criterion into the equation that's difficult to measure (quality). As much as I think your post is important, I can't boost it because it uses obscure Unicode characters just to get boldface. Those Unicode gimmicks are discouraged on mastodon because they mess up text-to-speech tools that many readers depend upon...
