This site is all about hashtags to search for topics.
But following people also works like the other site.
Setting up your browser is important (as shown in the videos).
But if you live on your phone there are tons of good apps that have the same functionality. I use Tusky for Android.
Filters are fab for blocking topics.

The vids are short and he's just teaching, not pushing anything.
People who have been on here for months don't know about the Advanced View in the browser, how to have groups of hashtags in columns (you don't have to follow the hashtags so you don't end up with a double-up in your home feed) and people have made a dog's breakfast of moving instances when he shows it's dead easy.

He set up a real account here in November, used it for a few days and then went back,
These guys mirror 100s of sports accounts on the bird site.
You go to their website, sign in with your Mastodon login, click the account you want to follow and all their posts end up in your home feed. It's really good.
If it's not working you just paste the account name you want to follow into search and it's the a/c with the suffix @sportsbots.xyz.
