The screenshot approach was expensive and broke frequently (some examples attached).
Overall this should lead to better stability & a more integrated feel.

These one-off accounts can’t be followed or quoted. If you reply, they’ll ignore it.
Their display names always start with “💬 𝕏”.
They live on ext.sportsbots.xyz.
Most important: they’re created per Tweet.
If multiple bots quote the same Tweet, they share the same one-off account.
If bots quote different Tweets from the same person, those are different accounts.
This is intentional to prevent confusion with “real” bots and to avoid sparse timelines that look broken or misleading.
📣 Big change launching today!
When our bots quote users that aren’t another bot, we’re no longer going to be attaching a screenshot of the tweet.
Instead, a one off account for just that tweet is created that our bots will quote using the new native quoting functionality added recently.
There’s likely to be some issues as this rolls out, so please alert us to anything you see that doesn’t look right!

Moving forward, if your instance goes offline for more than 7 days, we will stop trying to notify it of new posts indefinitely.
This is intended to improve stability for all, as there's a large number of abandoned instances, and is consistent with what Mastodon itself does.

You should see our bots quoting each other now + be able to quote them yourself.
