Hey folks, we are aware of the influx of spam from https://mastodon.social, and are looking at how we can resolve it.

In the short term, we have changed our federation with https://mastodon.social to "Limit", which should, I hope, stop you being notified of mentions from the spammers. But unfortunately it will also stop notifications from legitimate users, so it's very much not ideal.

I'll keep you informed.

Please don't send any more reports about https://mastodon.social users, for now at least.

Each report creates a tiny bit of work for moderators, which in normal times is exactly what we want, but when there are five new reports every minute, it becomes... less useful.

You can, of course, still block these users.

We've now suspended all users matching the spammer's pattern from our instance.
https://mastodon.social have blocked the spam sources -- https://status.mastodon.social/clh952ep3183939iqohnz4au8wb -- so I'm going to remove the federation limitation and see what happens 🤞
