Shopify just laid off 20% of employees, among which many were way more impactful than me.

The main reason I'm still there is randomness, not merit.

This is the first time I witness a major layoff first hand in a company I'm part of. It's really weird.

@sam I have been part of the other side a month ago, it's not fun ๐Ÿ˜ž
I'm sorry to hear Shopify is doing that as well, good luck to your former colleagues that got laid off. ๐Ÿ™‡
@shahor Thanks Alexandre. You were laid off by Slite after having worked more than 5 years with themโ€ฆ? Man that must have been toughโ€ฆ
@sam Yes, that is correct.
It's not the best feeling in the world I must say, but it is what it is. I try not to dwell too much on it and keep moving forward.
@sam eek, that's a lot! Have the French employees who are fired been actually notified? The French work law may not allow it until staff representatives have been consulted.
@swallez We have less than 50 employees in France, so I don't think we have staff representatives. Also, I don't think we laid off anyone in France during this round (unlike the previous one). However, it looks like 90% of the German subsidiary was decimatedโ€ฆ
