Nice that Google start adding #passkey support, but sad that I won’t be able to use them as they require #iCloudKeychain on #iPhone and there is no way that I enable that 😔
@vbfox No you don’t need to rely on iCloud Keychain or iPhone. Just try to sign in using Chrome browser or Brave on your Mac and it will create passkey that only work on that device. See this note for more details on Mac browser support: https://passkeys.dev/docs/reference/macos/#browser-behavior

@hisgarden thanks. Nice that apple didn’t block it on their desktop OS (Not that I can use it for now, being on Firefox)

But it doesn’t solve the problem for usage in the go on my iPhone, it’s even weirder that it require iCloud there if they don’t on MacOS 🤷 (Maybe they do on Safari, didn’t test)

Anyway intersection of things I use and passkeys is for now an empty set.

@vbfox @hisgarden passkeys availability update: if you are using any password manager like 1password or dashlane, give them a try as they support passkeys on any web browser/mobile OS they could install. It does not require you to have iCloud at all. Bitwarden’s passkey support is also coming.

@vbfox you can expect password management tools to get in on the act, and that might be more palatable for you.

For example, 1Password announced that they will have have cross platform support for #passkey from next month.
