970 EVO Plus 1TB refurb for $39, decent deal specially if you have some BestBuy credits (which for some reason I did).

This is why I don't care about getting a BestBuy refurb drive, it's basically an un-used return.
@paul 29/33 unsafe shutdowns heh

@paul Don't refurbishers wipe/modify the SMART data? Probably not the case here, though, but definitely something to keep note of.

(Not that it really matters IMO, drives die all the same -- as long as it lasts a reasonable amount of time, who cares.)

@winter some of the unscrupulous ones do, but I'd very much BestBuy would.
@paul here’s what mine looks like (bought one the day you posted about the sale):
@airboss did yours have a “wiped” sticker. Think maybe that’s where the writes come from.
@paul Wouldn’t 33 power cycles and 29 unsafe shutdowns in less than one hour indicate something fundamentally wrong with the device?
@gadgetgav I've got a drive that's maybe a year or two old that lists 11k power cycles, no idea why.
@paul I always worry about refurbished SSDs. I mean, flash is a consumable...
@dirkhh @paul
What can be refurbished on a flash chip?
I'm all about refurbished hardware but I'm with Dirk here, sounds very sketchy...
@paul someone on reddit said they gave everyone reward certificates since now only BB credit card customers will get rewards for purchases. They rounded up my points I had and gave me $10. https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/14/business/best-buy-rewards-dunkin-starbucks-ctpr/index.html

@paul best Buy refurbs are also great because they are often just open-box returns. Run the drive though a health checker and often they have near-zero reads/writes.

And if they were mining crypto or whatever — just return them!
