A man in India has planted more than 10 million mangrove saplings in the past 30 years to protect his island from erosion and storms. Kallen Pokkudan, also known as the Mangrove Man, is a former fisherman who became an environmental activist after witnessing the destruction of mangroves. Mangroves are vital ecosystems that provide habitat for wildlife, store carbon and buffer coastal communities from natural disasters.
