Hey Cloud Islanders;

While the new @MonaApp looks really interesting, I'd ask you to hold off on trying it out on macOS for now since it looks like it generates a *lot* of extra load on the webservers.

@aurynn @MonaApp Interesting. Just seeing it from MacOS or iOS too?

@amd iOS version hammers my web CPU just as badly. The app is clearly badly written wrt API use.

It also looks like it might be doing server block bypass behaviour. @MonaApp

@aurynn @amd @MonaApp I have been using #IceCubs on my #Mac (as well as iPhone and iPad) and it runs great. I have also been testing #Mona, and while I like some of its features, it does not seem as stable an app and includes an overwhelming array of customizations. Perhaps that is a factor? I also note that the official Mona app on iPad currently blocks any response to posts as all the icons (e.g. favourite, reboot) are greyed out. #Mastodon #apps
@seanb @aurynn @amd @MonaApp You’ve gotta buy to remove the greyed out.
@jeremydebose @seanb @amd @MonaApp I recommend not buying it until the load issues are sorted out, since this app will be extremely expensive for any admin
@jeremydebose @aurynn @amd @MonaApp That’s interesting. The app description suggests paying is optional for enhanced configurations and features. Basic button functionality seems essential. I don’t have a problem paying for an app; people deserve to make a living. But to release an app as free and then require payment to do anything is dishonest. They seem to have copied Ivory on that approach. Disappointing especially as a beta tester. Oh well.
@seanb @aurynn @amd @MonaApp Just a guess on my part cause I can still post on the beta but not on the public release. I’ll probably be buying soon so I’ll know if that’s the reason.
@jeremydebose @aurynn @amd @MonaApp I think you’re right. The beta works fine for me too, though I mostly use Ice Cubes as I prefer its design and features. It’s certainly nice that we have choices. I admire and appreciate the various creators.
@aurynn I checked the other week when Mona released, to test that. Unless anything has changed among then, it isn't from all the attempts I tried with conversation threads involving blocked instances.
@aurynn but it does from what I remember show like lists from originating instances I think? Where you may be seeing as I noticed something of that kind which is typically a red flag that the former happens too as we've seen.
