Thad@RobynCaplan I've waited 18 months, which really sucks. Nothing wrong with pinging the editors. It's getting harder and harder to round up reviewers, and things can fall through the cracks. But editors know how important timely reviews are.

Ben Pettis@RobynCaplan I once waited about 13 months, and still got no response. I sent a follow-up around month 6 asking for any updates and then after a the 1 year anniversary started looking for alternate journals - I ended up pulling it and submitting elsewhere. Thus beginning the waiting game once again...
