Looking at some peoples fancy #nowReading posts and the last couple of books I’ve read have been Stephen King books and not really even the classic or good ones.

It’s for a podcast, I say defensively…. (A podcast I am listening to, not a podcast I am on. It’s a good one though! This is… um, cultural history)

(Not that I’m against the odd King, but I get sniffy about unvaried diets)

So anyway I’m rereading #Tommyknockers for the first time in like 30+ years, ask adult me anything about how well I thibk it rips off Quatermass and the Pit.

(Quite well actually)

@arthurwyatt Steve has this weird thing where his writing is considering for the everyman but it also has deep references to literary and historical works.
Dark Tower only exists because of a Poem most of its readers had never heard of or cared about.
@docmagnificent still slightly taken aback at him stopping the plot to inexplicably have a character lay out the plot to Peter Straub’s Floating Dragon and Poul Anderson’s Brainwave.
@arthurwyatt It reminds me of BKV, how he will always stop a plot to explain this cool science fact he just learned. I find it endearing. Dude just likes having his characters talk about works he likes.
@docmagnificent any time in a Gibson they’re going to talk about canvas messenger bags or Soviet mechanical calculators or some shit.
