What really pisses me off about BlueSky is that the rules don't seem to apply to them. Where's all the cohesion that normally makes it infeasible for people to switch off of their current social platforms? Where's all the criticism and hate Mastodon got, where are all the people promising they will "never switch to it, no matter what"? And just what the fuck is wrong with you that you'd trust a for-profit entity ever again?!
It really feels like bad storywriting, where the villain appears out of nowhere over night and the entire population accepts them as their new dictator without question or hesitation.
@siguza two words: marketing dollars
@qwertyoruiop I still don't understand how anyone falls for marketing
@siguza my guess is that most people just want twitter to work again, and bluesky seems just that: a functioning twitter, from the man who created twitter no less. Add that the atmosphere seems to be way more chill for now. Of course people like it
@siguza @jankais3r 1. BlueSky is still very small. You’re falling for the media narrative
2. There’s lots of criticism and hate. Here on mastodon. But not on the mainstream media
3. There’s plenty of people who won’t switch no matter what.
4. Most people didn’t leave Twitter because it was for-profit. They left because Elon is bad at running it.
