Horse race reporters are getting sick of the "DeSantis floundering" narrative and are slowly pivoting to a "DeSantis comeback imminent" narrative

The narrative shift is made up. It's not based on facts. It's based on the needs of these reporters to write something new.

@juddlegum Reprobate reporters seeking new hook as Florida fascist's floundering forays into flip-flopping
@givemefoxes @juddlegum
👍👍👍👍👍
@juddlegum So it's an editorial policy problem.
@juddlegum It kind of seems to me like we are waiting for a "Pence v Trump" primary battle, with bone-headed horse-race coverage of Little Ronnie DeSansCajones filling the need for attention-grabbing content in between.
@juddlegum Aides to DeSantis say that the campaign has newfound energy. "Having hit absolute rock bottom, there's nowhere to go but up!" one anonymous staffer said. Another staffer standing nearby nervously shuffled her feet but did not say anything.
@juddlegum
I'd be more concerned about our media's ability to control public perceptions if I didn't know they'd been completely unable to steer any interviews with Republicans in the last two years even slightly towards discussing the, you know, coup.

@juddlegum

Put him on the bottom of the 10 cent superfecta ticket with all the other "also rans".

@juddlegum
“It’s not based on facts. It’s based on the needs of these reporters to write something new” WITHOUT HAVING TO DO ANY WORK! (Fixed it!)

That’s why they loved trump—he handed them a work-free story daily if not more frequently!

@juddlegum

It's weird, watching the Fourth Estate evolve into the Fifth Column...

@juddlegum

I wish reporters had narratives about the power jockeying amongst Republican billionaire donors instead.

DeSantis is a hot potato being tossed between Griffin and Russian oligarchs.

Major G.O.P. Donor’s Commitment to DeSantis Is Murkier Than Thought

The hedge fund billionaire Kenneth Griffin, who seemed set to be a powerful financial backer of the Florida governor, is said to still be evaluating the Republican primary race.

The New York Times
@juddlegum the narrative is ALWAYS about the Republicans, even though the current President is a Democrat.
@juddlegum I prefer the narrative that DeSantis is too partisan, evil, and boring to be elected.
@juddlegum ALL Horse Race reporters make stuff up. Polls are worthless until Attacks are in full swing. US elections are about negative campaigning.
@juddlegum what would be cool is if these political reporters, maybe, just maybe - reported on politics. It’s not sexy, and maybe your stockholders could care less - but “real kitchen table” people might want to know what they stand to loose with the GOP budget proposal, or how did the national debt get so high, or guns, trans/lgbtq rights, women’s personal rights, etc. CNN “presidential town hall” with trump is just the latest example of main stream media’s sycophancy
@juddlegum and btw - screw desantis

@juddlegum

According to Europeans who've been subjected to DeSantis, he's even more laughable than donny was... but not in an amusing way.

@juddlegum

They might have to put him down. He's returning to the barn lame. A mouse spooked him on the track.

@juddlegum. Yes, and as @jayrosen_nyu writes, let's turn away from the "odds" and focus on the "stakes."
@juddlegum when do we get "DeSantis shimmying"?
@juddlegum As a former reporter who never once wrote a horse race article, this stuff just royally pisses me off. How many ways do politicians impact on regular people's lives via pieces on various policy areas that they could frame out? What about doing a piece on where each candidate gets their money? The extent of dark vs. known funding?

@juddlegum

Biased optimist and they don't even know it.
