@anneapplebaum Anne & Jeffrey, You are so right. The debate should be focused on civilized behavior as the goal rather than democracy. All tyrants like Putin who don't value other state's sovereignty or human lives should be resisted by all civilized society not just the victimized.

A great choice to start the article with the story of a bizarre theft. The upcoming Summer campaign will decide if the status quo #kleptocracy will continue to hold sway in #Russia. #Putin’s attempted annexation of #Ukraine was a war of distraction dressed up in fake concerns of the #NATO threat. Decades of #Russian misrule, theft of public wealth, and failure to deliver quality of life improvements required a “patriotic” war which distracts from governmental incompetence
