You can report problematic posts or profiles by clicking their ⋯ button and selecting "Report".

Remember to include links to problematic posts in your report. This saves the moderators a LOT of time, and means the moderation will happen much more quickly and accurately.

If possible, select the option to anonymously tell the account holder's server too. They can shut down the account if necessary. (However, if their server is problematic too, it might be best not to use this option.)

@feditips Reporting myself for immature behavior and scatological humor.
@feditips I was looking to see if anyone was running an account for parenting tips and came across a hashtag that I didn't understand. When I hit it I found content that has alarmed me so much I considered leaving mastodon. I have no idea what to do about this. Is it something I can report? Honestly I don't think I could cope with having to view one of those images again. I reported the account I saw, but I'm not sure if it was to their instance or mine.

@feditips how does moderation typically work after it’s been submitted? Not the actual policy as I’d imagine that depends on the server, but the logistics of decision making.

Ex: are most servers today manually reviewing? If so, is that generally being some by volunteers? How many people? Or do some servers have automated systems that can triage based in some criteria where there’s no human involved?

Trying to understand how it works compared to say Twitter or FB.

@feditips When reporting, your supplemental text is capped at 1000 chars by default.

There's currently no char count as you type. If it's overlong, you'll find out when you try to submit, and it sends you back to edit it down. Urls in there are not shortened (not treated as 23 chars).

When reporting a rule violation, the UI presents a checklist of rules for YOUR instance: informing your own admin. When forwarding to an offender's instance w/ different rules, you'll have to write about it.

@feditips

I just tested today that, when I reported recent spammer's comment on my #PeerTube video and the report was hastily approved, that sick comment didn't federate throughout most servers. Email notification was timely, hehe. In other scenario, it would likely still be visible to users of wider #Fediverse, as what I witness with one that I was slower to catch on.

TIL: be fast and furious! ⏱️🛵💨🏁

@vintprox @feditips

nice and speedy. I have had the same experience. I watch the federated feed on my instance, if I spot things that are from the dark side of the internet check their instance, block the whole thing if the server is no good or submit a report to a fellow admin if its just the channel.

@feditips reported this post. its very violent
