Indeed, and the SCOTUS "ethics" letter conveniently ignores how Justice Thomas blatantly violated the very principles they state. There's a freaking painting of him receiving gifts (the free travel and lodging) to speak with groups that regularly come before the Court!

“The problem is there’s no accountability for violating the law. And there’s nothing in this statement that suggests the court even understands what the problem is.”

Supreme Court's new ethics declaration stops short of concrete action

It’s rare for the justices to comment publicly on ethics issues. This week’s joint statement largely echoes what they’ve said before.

People don’t understand recognition. They think the law is the end of it. We could all suddenly follow the United Federation of Planets and have a single global government. Everything would be peaceful as we all don’t recognise the old laws. Why we don’t has more to do with game theory than text.

So the corrupt in power cherry pick the law and don’t suffer consequences because their friends say it’s ok. The law is not in books, only copied there. It’s in our heads and in our hands and only expressed through our actions.

What matters is what you choose to matter. So choose wisely and choose loudly.
