Something has been bothering me & keeping it in is affecting how I treat others.

My father is sick & they can't do a biopsy b/c of his health & the location of the mass around his SVC.

The best option is to take differential PET scans to determine if it's an immediate danger or, like mine, better to leave & live.

We did the first scan in Dec, the 2nd scan was in April but insurance denied it 2 days before b/c he JUST had one.

Why pay insurance if it can't help when you most need it?😡

@PadreSJ Yes, maddening. I needed a heart scan and without going into details, after rescheduling 3 times and 15+ hours on the phone, I gave up trying to get insurance to pay for it. Hope I don’t die!
@PadreSJ oof. Sorry for both your father’s condition and the infuriatingly needless stress. But your father is fortunate to have you advocating for him - it’s a centrally important role in American health care these days.
@PadreSJ this is terrible! they may have an option to request an independent medical reviewer to review that denial. (so annoying)
@PadreSJ My PSAs were high, which could indicate prostate cancer. My GP suggested I get it checked. I went to the urologist who put in a request for a non-invasive, relatively inexpensive MRI. The insurance denied it. Instead, we had to settle for an invasive, more dangerous, more expensive biopsy procedure. (I did have early-stage prostate cancer but we beat it, yay!) The reason the MRI was denied? Because they only approve an MRI screening for cancer if you've had cancer...
@PadreSJ What a pain in the ass. I hate claims examiners that deny first and make the Drs elaborate on exactly what he's trying to do instead of just calling the Dr directly. <SIGH> Hang in there!

@PadreSJ ... for something that's nominally supposed to care for people, it's amazing how all the stories people tell about their health insurance are so devaluing and dehumanizing.

I'm sorry, Fr. Prayers for him, and I hope you get this resolved

@PadreSJ It is so tough, and trying to negotiate through an insurance maze is a full time job.
