A journalist is writing a story about the trend I've talked about before -- defamation threats and lawsuits against women telling #metoo type stories of their experiences.

The journalist is interested in talking to people who've received such threats. If anyone is interested email me. I can put you together with the journalist. I've talked to her and she's serious about the story and has a good outlet for it.

@Popehat not sure if it's relevant to you but there's been cases like this in Sweden.

@Popehat Thanks for doing this Ken.

@Popehat In RPG spheres, the Zak Sabbath defamation suit against the Mandy Morbid (who accused him of rape) seems like a textbook example of such a situation.

(I'm not involved with that situation at all, though. I have no idea if Mandy or others involved would be willing or able to speak to a journalist about the issue.)

@Popehat looking forward to reading this; it's a difficult problem.
@Popehat @eff has a good article up doing similar things: (PS Bonus points for shutting down the Greenpeace is doing the RICO arg.!!!) With updated link! https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/04/greenpeace-stands-against-slapps-and-wins
Greenpeace Stands Up Against SLAPPs And Wins

The U.S. litigation system is meant to resolve serious disputes. Unfortunately, the high cost of litigation can be weaponized as a means of harassment and censorship. That’s become all too common, and the last few decades have seen the rise of what’s known as a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public...

@pyperkub @Popehat @eff Was there a different link you intended to post here...
@StryderNotavi why yes, there was : blush: ;)

@Popehat can you DM/ message me with how to get in contact with you and the jornalist? Lots of us have things to share now that HUSH clauses are all voided but we are in fear of defamation obviously (or what they might try to present as defamation claimable)

@Popehat

I'm guessing your contact will already have seen this article from yesterday in the #UK, but in case not (or in case anyone else reading this is interested)...

"Nina Cresswell has successfully defended a libel case brought against her in the High Court by the man, William Hay, who sexually assaulted her and whose identity she revealed online in order to protect other women."

@crystalhuff IIRC, you mentioned this issue....
@mem_somerville Heh. I don't really use the wandering.shop account unless wrong.tools is down, but yes. Indeed.
@crystalvisits Ah, I couldn't recall. Search here is still a challenge, so I just picked one.
@mem_somerville no worries! I appreciate being remembered -- when in the middle of this debacle, it's sometimes/often hard to feel like the struggle matters to folks other than me and my family. Knowing that others remember this thing is really, really appreciated.
@Popehat how do I get in touch re this?
@Popehat My high school councilor told me I should just keep my sexual assault to myself because I would ruin the male student's promising career that HE had ahead of him. I dropped out of the Advanced program I was part of at the end of sophomore year, and I am where I am.
