Two Michigan students are suing their school district for not being allowed to wear sweatshirts to class with slogan "Let's Go Brandon"

Should these maga-larvae get to wear a terrorist slogan to class? Is this really under “protected speech?”

Lemme know your thoughts…

@flexghost As long as the dress code is consistent, no they don't get to wear the sweatshirts. Don't get to wear pro Biden or whoever shirts either.
@JoelforWI @flexghost there should be no political attire at school. It’s like gang attire back in the 80’s. It’s intended to divide and cause conflict. Zero tolerance.
@damnkimberlee @flexghost "no political attire", easy to say, can be hard to define when a symbol can be in a gray area.
@JoelforWI @damnkimberlee @flexghost it can be--absolutely and these people are experts at chaos and confusion. But we need the community to support the schools more and one or two trouble makers won’t be able to cause as much trouble.
@flexghost Only if I can buy the other students a Fuck Trump shirt

@jmalotte or you can wear a sweatshirt with all the many times he was holding his daughter in a creepy way

You know, like this…

@jmalotte @flexghost This was going to be my reply. I'd even compromise and go with "F&#^ Donald Trump". In the name of good taste. LOL

@flexghost Disclaimer - I am left of center and loathe Maga-ts.

The US Constitution guarantees their right to free speech. I have seen "Fuck Trump" shirts/hats as well as pretty much every other profane opinion around. Some schools ban based on color (gang related), skirt size, or other fashions. It is the right of the school to set dress code policy pending court challenge.

@max_headroom the supreme court ruled those do not apply to children at a school

@flexghost
Free speech matters and people should be allowed to wear this generally but the message is deliberately toxic and invites conflict in a learning environment.

They shouldn't be able to wear it because it would detract other students from their academic efforts.

@RnDanger the supreme court ruled This does not apply to children at school.
@flexghost
I feel like in the past they considered freedom, including the right to learn in school. I might be wrong though.
@flexghost
Dress code violation? No? Then it doesn’t matter.
Let them proclaim their treacherous stupidity to the world. I see it as a sign that says, “keep away”.
@flexghost yes, they should be allowed. Dress codes are a patriarchal oppressive tool. And now that this is in the news, it only empowers the wearer.
@flexghost Only if they like wearing condiments all over themselves too!
@flexghost They may as well be wearing a shirt with "You Don't Want To Be My Friend, Because I'm A Loser..." But as others have said, they have that right...to show how stupid they are...

@customer228 they don’t though. They don’t have that right. I think this nation needs to learn its own amendments.

Could you wear whatever you wanted to school? That time you wore assless chaps: how did that go over? 😂

@flexghost LOL @ "assless chaps"

You're right that this nation doesn't have the right to spread hate, or wear slogans that empower the hateful little sh*ts that want to do that...

@flexghost -Are students permitted to wear F___k TRump?
@bluemoon68 no. Which is why the crybully republicans are going to use this to say they’re being persecuted

@flexghost

Simple yes. Youth can have political opinions and express them. Even bad ones. Even in the place they are forced to be every day.

If the school wants to ban politics, that is a shitty move but they probably can because schools are typically run by and for petty tyrants.

@flexghost This is the equivalent of wearing a sweatshirt that says "F*ck Trump" so we all know what MAGAts heads would be doing if kids were allowed to wear those to school.
@flexghost if they can’t wear the F word on a shirt then no.
@flexghost let’s see how Hillsdale College feels about students wearing “Fuck Trump” sweatshirts to classes
@flexghost From a legal perspective, it's not a close question. It absolutely is free speech under Tinker. It's a stupid slogan for stupid people but calling it a "terrorist slogan" goes way too far. If the government can suppress political speech - even incredibly stupid and juvenile political speech - that power will be used and abused by the Trumps of this world to ban LGBTQ+ slogans or pro-abortion speech.
@flexghost as long as kids get to wear BLM merch too. And anti maga slogans.
@flexghost
I'm all for losers identifying themselves for ridicule and ostracization.
@flexghost
If the want to wear something that identifies themselves as dupable morons, I say, let them have at it...
@flexghost These asshats would 100% support a dress code that banned LGBTQ clothes.

@flexghost

Yes
Probably not productive to scrutinize HS kids for insensitivity

Hopefully some day they will distinguish between a person with whom they disagree and an office worthy of respect.

More practically, most of their lives they have been exposed to leftists-destroy-civilization rhetoric. Descending to the bait probably unproductive

@flexghost calling something that you don't like "terrorist?" Abuse of language is not the solution to abuse of language; rigorous honesty is.
