Some senators want to set a social media age minimum, banning kids under 13 and requiring parental consent for teens between 13 and 17. They've not said how they'll actually enforce it or verify ages, but it will probably entail more data gathering on kids

Incoming Senate bill would set age limit for kids on social media

The measure, led by Sens. Schatz and Cotton, would also set limits on algorithmic use.

The Washington Post
@drewharwell In five years a wave of new angry voters set an age limit on Senators. Forced retirement at 60.
@drewharwell it will entail gathering more information on *everyone*, which is the ultimate goal here
@drewharwell And yet minimum age for working or marriage are off the table with these chuckleheads.

@drewharwell what if they have one of those new child labour law jobs where they need to use social media for their job?

Don't answer that I'm not seriously asking.

@drewharwell imagine if those senators exercised some similar control over use of assault rifles...
@drewharwell this is what people that don’t understand what the internet is come up with… I don’t like this, let’s turn a minor issue into a full-on-fiasco. That will fix it.
@drewharwell They should ask the UK how well the Online Safety Bill is being received.
