It’s a good question whether generative AI means social media will break under the weight of fake content?

On one hand, I agree with @stratechery that this is the next evolution of social media content; your friends (FB) -> influencers (IG) -> everyone (TikTok) -> AI (???)

On the other hand, I expect it will soon be futile trying to determine if a person online is a bot or a piece of content is AI generated.

It's been bearing the weight of the fake content since social media CEOs lost all criminal responsibility.
@carnage4life I suspect this may only apply to algorithmic social media, oddly I don't see mastodon being effected by this problem as much 🤔
@carnage4life We're already there because of the proliferation of humans acting online like robots. LLMs will disrupt the pay-for-content/engagement industry by eliminating the need for a room full of English speakers.
@carnage4life Also, brace yourself for a flood of spam phone calls where an LLM attempts to scam grandmas out of their social security checks. The future is going to be stupider than anyone can imagine.
