I'm not sure why Baofeng bothers to manufacture a microphone which actively degrades voice to such an intelligible level, but this inelegant solution seems to help significantly. I think I'll pop some acoustic foam in the hole for aesthetics.
@G1LRO I'm not sure why hams bother to buy Baofeng 😄 There's good alternatives without the need to do any hacks.
@oh8hub very true. This mic was a $2 add-on to a recent (not Baofeng) radio purchase so I thought it would be a useful spare. It kinda works now so not a complete waste of $2 😀
@G1LRO Makes more sense. I'd probably modify and hack $2 stuff instead of buying $20 stuff.
@G1LRO I assumed it was to handle background noise on busy work sites. Forcing the person to shout at point blank range into the mic seems like a low-tech solution.
