I beg of you, just say Twitter. Don't say birdsite, or T******, or any other cute thing. Just say Twitter, so people can mute that word and not see your post.

Same with Musk. Or Trump. Or any other thing you think some of your audience doesn't want to see. Just say the word and let people mute that word. Please.

@sigridellis Honestly, why don't people get this. 🤦‍♀️
@AshleyMarineP @sigridellis Years and years of ingrained habits trying to evade awful namesearch reply guys. A lot of the folks who do this (myself included) are aware it's a bad habit but it's very long-standing and hard to break!
@sigridellis yes x 10000000000000000
@sigridellis
People have been calling it birdsite for a long time.
@joelpomales
@sigridellis it's been called the birdsite here since my 1st account over 5 yrs ago
@sigridellis how do you filter out words?? If I could never see musk again that would be great.
@richservo @sigridellis Under the Settings - if your app doesn't show a filter setting, log in via web browser instead to find it
@sigridellis point taken. I used to not use Trump's name on Twitter so as not to increase his engagement on the platform. Not applicable here and thanks for bringing this to my attention.
@sigridellis I never understood censoring it in the first place.
@sigridellis Elon Musk
Melon Husk
Twitter
Birdsite
Hellsite
Dumpster fire
Billionaire
Smartest
Musc
Even with these words blocked some toots still go through 🤕

@sigridellis
A good compromise is to use a CW with the code word and use the real words in the post?

That way, people who don't use filters but don't want to see these things can avoid opening them, and those who filter won't see anything.

@sigridellis Twitter, Musk, and Trump.

I never had a Twitter account, considering the current situation I'm glad I never did.🤔

As for Musk and Trump, well, Musk and Trump are out there on humongous ego trips. I'm not fond of Musk and Trump. As far as having anything to say about Musk and Trump. I'm glad I never did have anything to say.

Twitter, Musk, and Trump. 🤔

@sigridellis right, this isn't Twitter or Facebook, where people can search for those words and mob you.
@sigridellis So much this. I don't understand what purpose people think these cutesy alternate names serve.
@sigridellis There was this forum I went to where it was seriously considered that referring to Trump as «  Drumpf » or «  Orange shitgibbon » or reminding oneself that in some Scottish slangs trump means fart or stuff like that, was the be-all and end-all of political activism. They were also madly in love with how they were superior to Republican voters who kept reacting well to ad-hominem campaign or saying «  Barack HUSSEIN Obama » as if it was good politics.
@sigridellis here have an ANSI Z535 compliant hazard sign to tap

@sigridellis I understand why many who came from Twitter do it, because we learned to do it there to avoid people who search for those words to come and abuse anyone with an opinion they don't like. That can't really happen here, so it's safe to just use the name.

For those asking, you can find Filters in your account profile. You don't have to make a new filter per word, as each one can have multiple text strings.

@sigridellis I am with you except for tfg. There’s been a consensus to use the acronym for The Former Guy for the Orange one to starve his ego. So, you’ll have to mute tfg as well.
@sigridellis Absolutely and that goes for the three letter word referring to a feline too 🙂
@sigridellis Absolutely and that goes for the three letter word referring to a feline too 🙂
@sigridellis Totally agree with this!!
@sigridellis not to mention how stupid it reads when grown adults call a website 'the bad place'

@sigridellis

You're just so right.
THX for reminding us.

@sigridellis Yes, please, please please.

@sigridellis Fair point, it does let people choose the content they do or don't want to see.

I'll keep in mind when I post about Twitter.

@sigridellis on the other hand, if you know people use words like bird site, or sensor out the word twitter, you then know you can filter out those bits based on the words they use. people should not have to cater to your whims when posting on their own timelines, though I do see your point.
