I am very pleased to see this episode of BBC’s The Forum drop about the past and future of the office. I was on talking all things open plan of course. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct38tn
BBC World Service - The Forum, How we work: Redesigning the office

The concept of the office is being reimagined. What can we learn from its history?

@jkbuhler
Just discovered that, thanks for sharing. Great conversation on #OfficeDesign #OfficeHistory #HybridWork and the #futureOfWork.
Really liked your last point on who the office serves and doesn't serve. Saying this as a current remote worker, disabled by #LongCovid and craving contact with colleagues but the stress of commuting and risk (of reinfection) is currently unfeasible for me
@kerstinsailer thank you for sharing your experience--I think we are seeing a growing number of workers who are struggling with these issues. I don't feel like this aspect is getting as much attention as it should.
@jkbuhler Agreed! The topic is minimised everywhere, even by some of those affected who prefer to keep quiet.
There's a lot of stigma associated with not being able to be as productive as others. Probably true for every industry but I feel it very acutely in academia.
And then lots of people don't want to hear about #LongCovid in particular as that's too scary to fathom. Ed Yong's recent article in the Atlantic was brilliant, see: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2023/04/long-covid-symptoms-invisible-disability-chronic-illness/673773/
Long COVID Is Being Erased—Again

What was once outright denial has morphed into a subtler dismissal.
