Twitter is dying :)
@caseynewton will Phoenix rise from its ashes?
@caseynewton Hey, those 28 new Twitter Blue subscriptions is nothing to sneeze at!
@LeChevalier @caseynewton it's 29 now, he "gifted" one to Jason Alexander to try to keep him on the platform.
@caseynewton in general or did something happen?
Robert E Kelly on Twitter

“🧵 This doesn't mean non-blues didn't have interesting things to say or good reasons to be anonymous. But bc social media is awash in content, even the most rudimentary sorting mechanism quickly became very useful And old Twitter provided 2 great filtering mechanisms: banning 1”

@ahmetasabanci @caseynewton Oh I love this GIF. It is kind of the image I have in my mind's eye lately when I ask AI a question LOL
@caseynewton Might take a while, though. Hasn't Myspace been dying for more than 15 years now?
@caseynewton for sure. Only like 85% of toots are about Twitter, down from 85.5% a month ago. Progress!

@caseynewton that’s so sad Alexa play Sprigatito

YouTube
@caseynewton It used to be my favorite space to hang out at online. The only social media I really used (even if I didn’t post often). But after Elon got involved, and with Mastodon and other alternatives coming up, I realized that what makes Twitter great does not have to come from Twitter. And I hope more people realize the same.

@caseynewton

Golly, it can’t be any worse than, say, exploding giant rockets, or self driving electric cars that create fatal accidents and explode or something… oh, wait….

@caseynewton it's dead inside already. It's just the decaying corpse that is still twitching.

@caseynewton But it will also not die.

It will limp on for a while and then reinvent itself as this bullsh*t 'everything' app and become something entirely different. It still has millions of users; it's gonna survive. Unfortunately.

@caseynewton Netcraft confirms it

@tomw It is now official. Netcraft has confirmed: Twitter is dying

One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Titter headquarters when @caseynewton confirmed that Twitter userbase has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all social media platforms. Coming on the heels of a recent NPR survey which plainly states that Twitter has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we’ve known all along. Musk’s empire is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by the recent Starship explosion.

You don’t need to be Casey Newton to predict Twitter’s future. The hand writing is on the wall: Twitter faces a bleak future. In fact there won’t be any future at all for Twitter because Twitter is dying. Things are looking very bad for Twitter. As many of us are already aware, Twitter continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

The ethics department is the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of its core team. The sudden and unpleasant departures of 50 of the top 100 Twitter advertisers only serve to underscore the point more clearly. There can no longer be any doubt: Twitter is dying.

Fact: There are almost no Twitter developers left, and its use, according to NYT, is down to a sadly crippled .005% of social media influencers. A recent attempt at a face-to-face summit in Boulder, Colorado culminated in an out-and-out fistfight between core developers and Elon Musk, reportedly over code commenting formats (tabs vs. spaces). Hotel security guards broke up the melee and banned the participants from the hotel. Two of the developers were bitten, and Musk continues to have his jaw wired shut.

All major surveys show that Twitter has steadily declined in market share. Twitter is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If Twitter is to survive at all it will be among crypto scammers. Twitter continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, Twitter is dead.

.

PS: context for those who are unfamiliar with the meme

@caseynewton

I feel this way about Twitter's imminent demise.

@caseynewton It’s dead to me. (Joined in 2008, started the deletion process earlier this month.)
@caseynewton Elon is now on the hook for billions to a lot of very powerful and very dodgy investors
@caseynewton I have truly enjoy the prioritization of replies by blue check so I can block much more easily. A service, really. Very useful. 5 out of 5 stars.
@caseynewton and honestly watching him flail around, gasping and grasping for attention and love as all of his business founder AT THE SAME TIME is just *chef’s kiss.* It’s hilarious and sad and a statement about modern American capitalism all at once.
State-controlled media experience sudden Twitter gains after unannounced platform policy change

Twitter accounts run by authoritarian state media suddenly began to gain followers; Twitter acknowledged a change in policy three weeks later

@caseynewton I’m plotting my exit from the place. The algorithms have shifted into a right winged cluster and would be internet preachers
@caseynewton We can't be sure until Yahoo! is buying it.
@caseynewton not fast enough to stop the on-going damage
@caseynewton
Twitter is dying in the same way that Musk is going broke. Yes, things are moving in that direction, but don't plan to pop the cork anytime soon.
@caseynewton I never thought it was going to be so spectacular
