Are there any national organizations that are supporting teachers who are targeted by anti-LGBT extremist groups for being supportive of LGBT students?
@Popehat I am shocked, SHOCKED that FIRE isn't doing anything to support teachers who are being targeted for supporting LGBT students.
@halfcocked What do you think it would be in their wheelhouse to do?
@Popehat Roughly the same thing that was in their wheelhouse when they demanded that private entities not take punitive action against teachers who attended white supremacist rallies.

@halfcocked Can you be more specific?

Who should they demand to, and what should they demand from them?

@Popehat Can you be more specific, since you're the one looking for groups to do something?
@halfcocked @halfcocked Well, I was hoping that there were groups that provided advice and moral support to teachers being targeted by community extremist groups for this particular topic. Like, advise them on their rights, tell them what techniques are effective and what to avoid, etc.
@Popehat Ya, telling teachers what their rights are definitely sounds like something far outside of FIRE's mission statement.

@halfcocked I think you misunderstand what kind of help I’m asking for. The school isn’t stopping or disciplining the teachers. Community extremists are harassing and attacking them in the community.

But thanks for your input.

@Popehat @halfcocked “FIRE’s litigation team proactively seeks plaintiffs to participate in lawsuits that have the potential to set lasting legal precedents.” Seems to me that they could be looking for plaintiffs to enforce teachers’ rights to express pro-LGBT sentiments in the classroom.
@kyozou @halfcocked The issue isn’t the school letting them do it. The issue is community groups attacking them locally.
@Popehat @halfcocked I honestly think that you could find teachers who would say that their local government or school administration has targeted them for being supportive of LGBT students.
