On April 18 at least six police officers from the National Operations Department (NOA) of the Swedish Police visited the Mullvad VPN office in Gothenburg with a search warrant.

They left without taking anything and without any customer information.

Mullvad VPN

@mullvadnet Excellent job, keep it up. I am a happy user for years and these stories confirm my choice.

Any idea what they were looking for? Or is it asking too much?

@mullvadnet You don't keep payment information either? It could be used to find out who is using your service, couldn't it?

@kallekn @mullvadnet Probably the police asked for customer information other than payment information, which they happened not to have. Or, probably the police asked for customer information which is related to a specific connection (or group of connections) being made, but customer information has been decoupled with login credentials.
@Orca @mullvadnet Probably. But how could the police know without checking? And how could they check without seizing data? It would be interesting to know a bit more about this.

@mullvadnet
Very good job 👍
Keep up the good work !
@mullvadnet
Not all VPNs are created equal.
This reminds me of that time when Italian police came to my place, asking me to plant a backdoor in @noscript and help them in an operation. I kindly explained that NoScript being FOSS and under costant scrutiny by @mozilla add-ons editors and @torproject developers, such a thing would have been simply inconceivable.
They just had to thank me for my time and go away.
@mullvadnet This is why Mullvad is the VPN I trust the most when it comes to privacy! Keep on doing what you're doing!
@mullvadnet how can you continuing your operations if you didn't show them anything? Didn't the police got a chance of case and desist if you din't give them what they want?
@mullvadnet Excellent job! Keep up the good work!
@mullvadnet
Any idea why they were there or what they were looking for (which kind of customer / data they were after)? #privacy
@mullvadnet Maybe you need to move your headquarter to a new location? Such as USA? I noticed that you were searched by the NOA without going through the court. You should at least have the opportunity to defend yourself in court. When it comes to the case of PIA VPN, I think the U.S. is at least more friendly in terms of legal provisions and institutional design. Anyway, support your efforts! God bless you!

@JKing

No plans to move away from Sweden.
