my recollection might be fuzzy but twenty years ago someone that I was told was Josh Matlow showed up with a bullhorn and staged a one-man protest during a province-wide power blackout at the Ontario New Democratic Youth convention, ranting that everyone there was an unhinged radical and calling for abolition of ontario’s labour party for causing Liberal Party losses.

anyway, Josh Matlow is running for mayor of Toronto is asking for labour support, interesting trajectory if that was indeed him

@leigh please tell me I’m hallucinating this, and also that I’m hallucinating that Nathan Rotman went on to help a handful of billionaires destroy urban housing accessibility on a global scale
@hoverbeaver Jesus Christ I’d missed the Rotman/Airbnb… turn. Fuck. Wow.
@hoverbeaver I vaguely remember the bullhorn thing… don’t remember Matlow though - he ran as a liberal in 2002?
@leigh yeah but against Ernie Eves while he was premier which was doomed to fail from the start. The guy who stormed the toronto steelworkers hall was very concerned about lefties splitting the vote, it seemed very campus politics
@hoverbeaver I remember a guy very freshly IDing as a woman in order to claim some committee seat that has a gender quota? Similar vibe??
@leigh oof, I have cringe cramps now
@hoverbeaver please tell me you remember!!
@leigh I turned forty last year and we were still using mapquest, my memories of that time exist only on the fringes of my visual perception immediately after waking
