Hitting Fox in the pocketbook doesn't work if they earn more from their lies thru increased cable demand fees than they pay out to the companies they've smeared.

The market isn't going to self-correct here. We need to find a way to actually stop the lies.

@georgetakei People need to cancel their cable subscriptions with the explicit reason that "Fox news is bundled, and I don't want it"
@stephenczetty @georgetakei if i cancel my cable subscription i pay more to the cable company, because it costs *more* to not include cable with my internet. I cancel the cable entirely i loose internet. With cable companies having a defacto-monopoly on internet access in almost all US areas, that's not a practical option.

@masukomi @georgetakei Wait, WTF? So they are throwing in cable for free when you buy a discounted internet service? (Or vice-versa.) The math doesn't really add up there, I guess either cable or internet is considered a loss-leader? Or their prices are way way too inflated already... I'm not sure what to do in that case...

I've been cable (television) free for >10 years, so I don't know the state of things today, but last I checked, the price of internet alone was less than the price of the bundle.

I get occasional marketing crap from them to add the bundle, and either the total price would go up slightly, or the internet speed caps would go down.

@stephenczetty @georgetakei

kind-of? it's more like if i pay comcast $100 i get cable tv + internet but if i get rid of the cable tv, i have to pay $120 (prices made up). Note that this is MINIMAL cable tv. the service level no-one wants because it's useless, BUT it means you are configured for good cable so they can try and convince you to add channel packages with no additional install needed.

@masukomi @georgetakei Ugh. Comcast. I'm sorry. But still, that's insane.
@masukomi @georgetakei Actually? Check their business packages. It might be more expensive but you'll get faster speeds and no cable.
@stephenczetty @masukomi @georgetakei or maybe use your antennas and sample free tv, and if that sucks, turn off the tv and read. Just saying. One can say no to shit tv that the Comcast foists on its customers
@MarkBrigham @stephenczetty to be clear, just because they supply cable tv to me, doesn't mean i _watch_ it. I don't know why i would when I have the entire internet.
@masukomi Even the Fox "news" problem is a market consolidation problem.
@masukomi @stephenczetty @georgetakei
Major mobile providers offer wireless home internet ranging from $25 to $50 per month.
#DumpCable
@masukomi @stephenczetty @georgetakei call them up and complain. Tell them you want a Fox β€œnews” disinformation rebate every month on your cable bill because you refuse to pay for #RWNJ garbage.
