I had a great day meeting with our new partners in Japan (more coming soon!), and also taking in some of the sights! While en route I was also able to listen to some great talks for my boot-edition #AcademicRunPlaylist! (1/4)
First was a nice event at #StanfordHAI on #AI from a majority world perspective. These are viewpoints that often aren't considered in industry conversations, and ideally they're centered in events that aren't explicitly focused on traditionally marginalized regions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oUmKPf1JWM (2/4)

Next was an interesting talk by @annaschapiro on how our brains learn at the Learning Salon. Beyond the intriguing theme and applications in humans, there are easy to see implications for artificial systems as well. Given the problems we still see in catastrophic forgetting in these systems, it's interesting to learn more about how our brains overcome that issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-VkOG_S6do (3/4)

Last was a fantastic panel at the Burnes Center for Social Change on non-compete agreements and worker power with Elizabeth Wilkins, @Sanjuktampaul, and Seth Harris. This gets not only into the legal issues with non-competes, but also the important work that the #FTC is doing to improve competition for workers. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uST7U5yZ3M (4/4) #labor #HR
