My gen z students are terrified to fundraise for their team. They won’t even go to a single store without me. 20 of them. I don’t know if it’s an in person thing or post COVID thing but it’s going to be super hard to fund their tournament travel….

@hacks4pancakes the struggles are real. Seen scouts doing popcorn fundraising in front of big box stores, and not wanting to talk to people. Between the "stranger danger", the news of folks being blasted for knocking on the wrong door, and monthly mandatory school "drills", it's hard for some folks. My son struggled visiting neighbors either side of us who we talk to all the time.

Lots of alternatives in cyberspace, gofundme, etc. Good luck, and if you set something up, post their links here!

@j_angliss We can’t find a virtual option that’s adequate at the levels you would typically get from sponsorship with local businesses. We did a gofundme last year, and got about $800 for the whole year (I did amplify it here). Tournament travel for a sports team of 20 means funding part of cross/country trips for 20 kids and maybe a coach or two. It’s really problematic. Especially for the least privileged kids whose parents can’t afford fo help.
@j_angliss we do everything on the cheap, like caravanning by van instead of flying whenever possible, but even shared lodging for the ones who can’t afford it eats that up fast. I’m having to spend my lunch escorting them to stores but I can’t scale. This is really a scary problem.
