The more I think about it, I have to conclude that #Activision #Blizzard's mandatory #RTO is their attempt at a soft #layoff. It's a comical combo of unfair, stupid, and cruel.

"Being loud about it because I've lost yet *another* person this week.

Blizzard is losing amazing talent because someone in power doesn't listen to the game directors who make his products. DE&I also means diversity of thought, especially when it's backed by data and financials."

@djdesign @RainofTerra What's up with that "diversity of thought" comment? Hard to distinguish whether that's a dog whistle, ignorance, or intentional
@saraislet @djdesign I do not understand the question.

@RainofTerra @saraislet From what I know of Adam, I would wager he just stumbled on dog whistle terminology he wasn't even aware of.

The "thought" in his statement is management's fervent belief that ABK can't make successful games from home. No amount of real life data (successfully shipping excellent games/expansions for 3 years while fully WFH) has been able to dent Bobby & Mike's *feeling* that working in the office is "better".

@djdesign @saraislet I am also not aware of it. Is this some kind of “diversity of thought” == “letting morons say whatever they want” thing?

But yeah if that’s a thing it isn’t what Adam was saying.

@RainofTerra @djdesign "diversity of thought" is a dog whistle that took root across tech a few years ago in backlash to DEI. Essentially, they propose that a group that appears homogenous (cisheteropastriarchal neurotypical white men of a certain pedigree) could have broader "diversity of thought" than, well, actual diverse teams

@RainofTerra @saraislet the right likes to insist that "diversity" must include diverse viewpoints -
often brought up in the context of ideological balance among college professors/students.

In other words, they want to claim that they're being discriminated against because of their political affiliation (when actually people just don't like them because said viewpoints are selfish, hateful, and bigoted).
