My favorite professor told me a story about his friend asking him to come see his daughter gig at a club in the early '80s. Which he wasn't, of course, thrilled about doing. But he wanted to be a pal so he went. 'And you know what?' he said. 'It turned out his daughter was Susanna Hoffs and she was really good.'
