OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma's governor is seeking the resignation of four county officials after a newspaper's audio recording apparently captured some of them complaining about two of the paper's journalists and knowing hit men and where two holes are dug.

@TonyStark there isn’t anything funny about what we hear on this recording, and that’s what’s so terrifying; there’s no laughter. None at all. These creatures are discussing hiring a hit man and lamenting the end of lynching and they’re saying it conversationally, almost casually, as if it’s something they say to each other all the time. Gives me f*cking chills.

@TonyStark i heard countless times similar conceptual remarks from my dad about my wife when he was alive. "it's just a joke! get a sense of humor" except these aren't jokes. they are a serious problems.

People are constantly asking me what to do to make things better. Getting people like this out of office would be one thing. Again, if you live in Oklahoma, push back on them. This needs as much attention as we can give it.

@TonyStark I believe this is not an outlier and that police across the country engage in a whole range of illegal activities, including using seized drug money to pay their confidential informants to go out and commit petty crimes in order to create the public perception that more police funding is needed. The entirety of American law enforcement is corrupt from top to bottom.

@TonyStark As a resident of Oklahoma (and also father to a young journalist who studied under Dr. Senat mentioned in the article), I am ashamed that these horrible, racist people hold office in a remote corner of my state. However, I am glad (and honestly, surprised) the governor called for their resignation. Please know that this Oklahoman and many others like me are disgusted by this behavior.

The governor there does deserve recognition for doing the right thing. I definitely do appreciate that there are great people in Oklahoma who are appalled. Thanks for fighting the good fight there. Great people are all over the country. Nobody should forget that.

@TonyStark Thank you. Just to be clear, my son was not the reporter who broke this news. However, he works at another newspaper in Oklahoma, and I am proud of his integrity and fairness in his reporting. You are right that we need good journalism now!

Yes, I listened to it on MSNBC in the car earlier today. Since I live in TX, I thought at first it was Texans talking....and sadly could've been just as easily.

@TonyStark Rachel Maddox played this shocking tape on Monday. It’s totally revolting, alarming, shocking, whatever you choose to label it and all of the people on the tape should already be gone from their jobs and under federal investigation. What is the delay in relieving everyone of them from their positions? I realize it will leave the sheriff’s office without any bodies, but that’s the price of this kind of activity.
