For the umpteenth time. Social Security taxes are not "double taxation". The amount withheld from your paycheck reduced the gross wages and THEN those are taxed. People who want no Social Security taxes think they're special; that their income shouldn't be taxed AT ALL, while all of your income is taxed. Why should they get tax free income?

I think much of the issue comes from the word 'tax'. Social Security is not a tax - it's a contribution by both you and your employer (even if that's you) into a government run retirement fund. You are correct - that money is taken out pre-tax, and just like a 401K, you may have to pay taxes on it when you receive it. I'd personally be a lot happier not to pay taxes on it, but double taxation - nah. Wrong-o.
